U.S. Legislative and Fiscal Developments

  • The budget bill is set for broad Senate discussions today. The bill passed one Senate procedural vote Saturday. The Republicans are trying to hold together one group who wants to reduce deficits and one group that wants to help protect some safety net programs. “Broadly, the megabill would extend tax cuts and boost defense and border funding while cutting spending on Medicaid and food aid. It would add nearly $3.3 trillion to deficits compared with current law according to the Congressional Budget Office.”
