1. Do your core job great and keep your eyes open. Connect dots and keep your eyes open.
But start with doing your job great. We like to say spend 80 to 90% of your energy on excelling at your core job.
2. Some of the very best leaders I have watched over the years have high motors, are great team builders and may not look like what people thought of as a traditional leader. And you may not notice their motor and drive immediately. They may not look like the old school tall patrician leaders but are often far better than what people thought was going to be a great leader.
3. Do you have ever want to give up on an effort.
Maybe but the key is to change and reenergize over the years.
All of us have peaks and valleys.
I view the world through three simple prisms.
1. Not busy is depressing and boring.
2. Busy is better than not busy.
3. Busy with purpose and intention brings one closer to self actualizing.
Some of your best long term people will have ups and downs. You need to stick with your best people through these situations.
4. We need full coverage.
Coverage is very different than access.
We need to fix the supply problem.
AI, GLP-1s and preventive care can help but we better fix the supply problem.
Hospital leaders largely work very very hard.
There is still a huge benefit to the perspective of a physician as a hospital ceo.
5. Long term success
You likely need to set some boundaries if want to excel for the long term
You need to take care of your physical and mental health.
It’s much better to build careers with teams and teammates.
Think — are you in an environment where you can do great work and your team can do great work?
