25 Quick Business Mantras, Concepts and Thoughts
1. Change it, leave it or accept it. Said a different way –
Double down, stay the course or abandon the effort.
2. More meditation, more calm and less coffee. I’m a C- here. This is clearly aspirational.
3. Don’t let the old man in. Ie, getting back at anything as you get older gets harder and harder. Stay with it and never slow down too too much.
4. Save like a pessimist, invest like an optimist.
5. Practice law/your profession. and then practice leadership. The evolution of careers and growth. One evolves from a core role to management and leadership.
6. Really understand the business and the landscape you are working in. And then apply what you do in that context.
7. Injuries vs illness. Be thankful for reparable injuries.
8. As the economy weakens, it’s important to prioritize your spending as to what you think is critical, go easy on debt, understand your asset allocation and maintain your emergency funds.
9. Always ask for an estimate before starting any project. Legal, consulting and painting.
10 It takes tremendous discipline once you get wealthy to stay wealthy. Just like it takes great discipline and effort to stay the leader once you become the leader. Eg, Lululemon losing ground. But look at Apple and Epic and Amazon and Walmart and their long term strength.
11. Allocation is critical. Don’t get bullied by an advisor into a more aggressive allocation than you can live with. You need to understand market allocation and have an emergency fund. And understand behavioral finance va optimal finance.
12. Don’t quit your job during a recession.
13. Show up early to every business meeting or meeting of any sort. If you are organizing a meeting, it should almost always be shorter than is the norm.
14. 80 percent of success is showing up every day on time. The rest is brights, drive and personal skills.

16. How you do anything is how you do everything. I’m a half believer in this. You need to pick where you want to excel and give yourself a break in other areas.

18. Marketing vs Sales. Marketing without a sales team or sales effort is often a waste of time. Sales sales sales. We build sales teams first and use marketing for air support.
19. Don’t upset the apple cart. Ie, don’t create conflict where it’s not needed.
20. No new ideas. Ie, you can’t introduce new ideas every moment if you want to execute brilliantly.
21. Digging ditches. You need to dig a lot of ditches to have the fly wheel start and the ditches to start digging themselves. It’s a lot of work to get something really going.
22. Culture is everything —no it’s not. Culture and strategy and talented people are everything.
