10 stories we are following today.
1. NVIDIA is down nearly 6% pre market on restrictions on exports to China.
2. China and the US look like they are circling toward talks.
3. Great to talk to Murphy Jensen, Daniela Tudor and Cameron Chell on a special episode of the Becker’s Healthcare and Becker Private Equity and Business Podcast yesterday. They founder behavioral company WeConnect. Murphy won the French Open with his brother in doubles and is one of my heroes.
I don’t even think a combined team of Josh Leighton and Mitch Granger could compete with Murphy and Luke Jensen.
4. Thrilled today to visit with Aniket Bhardwaj on cyber security and M and A and more. Aniket is brilliant.
5. On the scares and portfolio side finally a better week where I’m not cowering to go on the scale or look at the portfolio.
6. We have webinar coming up May 7 where I’ll discuss 25 business mantras and thoughts. These come out our book “The Entrepreneurs Edge”. We are close to starting the next book.
7. There is all this business and personal advice out there about the 5 people you hang out with the most. And a lot of it goes like this. Pick your 5 closest based on how successful or something they are because you will gravitate to be a lot like them. Now I have watched this advice given in a million different contexts and I have to tell you “I hate this advice”. It leads to an amount of social climbing and social optimization that to me is so so so distasteful. Assuming your best friends aren’t convicts and I say that somewhat jokingly, pick your closest colleagues based on who you love being with and who mutually act the same way and who leave you feeling positive and upbeat. And who may have mutual interests to you. Don’t pick them based on their net worth, their position in life, their handicap or any other concept. Pick them based on their reliability and are they good friends and do they make you feel better. Can you count on them? Do they reciprocate interest in you? Do you and they fill each others buckets? Don’t water dead plants or chase prestigious friends.
8. A special thanks to sponsor and fantastic company Sales Empowerment Group and Sean Carson for being our special webinar guest in April at Becker Private Equity and Business Podcast.
9. https://lnkd.in/g9CNtqVN. Twitter vs Reality.
10. Never start a project without an estimate. A small percentage of vendors will surprise you to the negative.
Ps. Happy birthday to rock star daughter Chloe Becker and to rock star all around person and leader Nancy Temple.
